City Council members in Atlantic City, N.J., will no longer have access to three vehicles that had become a source of controversy in the city as a costly legislator perk.

The City Council voted on Feb. 3 to bar elected leaders from using the cars rather than implement a policy limiting use of the vehicles and requiring council members to sign them out and record their mileage, reports the Press of Atlantic City.

State officials had criticized the city in 2012 for spending money on council vehicles. The city had spent $63,600 that year for the three vehicles.
