Arkansas Mayor Fined for Using City Vehicle for Campaigning
GOULD, AK – A small-town Arkansas mayor was fined $500 after taking a city-owned car filled with re-election campaign signs into a neighboring city, then calling for a police cruiser to drive him home when the car broke down.
GOULD, AK – A small-town Arkansas mayor was fined $500 after taking a city-owned car filled with re-election campaign signs into a neighboring city, then calling for a police cruiser to drive him home when the car broke down, according to the Web site www.wmcstations.com. The Arkansas Ethics Commission fined Gould Mayor Lloyd Parks for breaking state law twice during the October incident.
Commission Director Graham Sloan said the panel found that Parks illegally put signs for his failed re-election campaign in the city’s used Dodge Neon and abused his privileges by having a city police officer in a cruiser drive to Pine Bluff to pick him up when the vehicle broke down.
Sloan said Parks also broke state laws when he allowed a cousin to print out campaign materials on a city computer. Besides the fine, the commission issued a warning letter to Parks.
