HUNTSVILLE, TX - James Archie, City of Huntsville fleet manager, announced his retirement, according to The Huntsville Item. Archie has worked for the City for more than 30 years.

Archie will be honored by his fellow city employees with a private party May 26 to commemorate his three decades of work for Huntsville in four different positions.

Archie joined the city staff in 1978 as a service technician and worked his way through the ranks of the city fleet staff, becoming a mechanic, then a senior mechanic, and finally the city's fleet manager.

"Over the last 32 years, I have considered it a privilege to be able to serve here," Archie said May 18. "Not only did I feel privileged, but I also felt it was a great opportunity to work with the people here, from the City Council to the city manager to the city staff.

"Everyone has been very supportive, and I'm going to miss everyone, but I think it's time to move on and do something different in life."

City Manager Bill Baine praised Archie's contributions to the city.

"Mr. Archie has displayed the epitome of exceptional work ethic, and he has been a fine representative for city employees," Baine said. "He has served the city selflessly, and has always placed the taxpayers first, ensuring that we achieve maximum use of all city vehicles.

"I wish him well in all future endeavors, and he will always have a home in the City of Huntsville."

Archie said he looks forward to spending his retirement fishing, hunting and riding his horses, Bounty and Duncan, reported the Huntsville Item.
