Bobit Contributed Content Guidelines

Articles accepted for publication will appear in appropriate online Bobit media brands/outlets and in various Bobit e-newsletters.

Word Count: 1,200 to 2,500 words. We are looking for expert-written content. Based on the quality and relevance of the content, exceptions may be considered.

All contributed content must be exclusive to Bobit. This means that articles or columns should not have appeared elsewhere and will not be submitted to other digital/print publications, media outlets, websites, online forums, and/or social media platforms after publication.

Please complete the form below and attach the article as a Word document or copy it into the field provided. Unless there's a pressing time requirement, we typically respond to unsolicited pitches within three weeks. Please be prepared to include:

  • Brief description of the article submission
  • Your expertise and professional background
  • Outline or attached content in a Word document
  • Any available photos (.png or .jpg preferred), graphics, and/or imagery

Note: We accept article pitches in place of the full article. However, Bobit only makes final decisions on acceptance upon receipt of the completed article.

Subject Matter:

Bobit publications each have a specific industry focus. Please be sure you are submitting content recommendations that fit the brand's focus and audience needs. Please visit the brand's website to ensure you are meeting the publication's needs.

Our readers seek tips and tactics to do their jobs better, manage their workers, boost their leadership skills, understand the latest technology that applies to their business, improve their operations, and save on costs. Your article/column should provide information/expertise they can take away, implement, modify, and use, or provide great thought-provoking insight.

If your pitch seems like a good fit, an editor will contact you within three weeks. Due to the number of submissions we receive, we cannot respond to all article pitches. If we do not respond within three weeks, your article will not be selected for publication.

Deadlines:

They are not necessary. We are constantly looking for good material. However, we can provide a deadline if you prefer.

Selection Criteria:

Articles/columns are accepted or rejected at the sole discretion of our editor in charge of contributors. If your article is accepted, you must sign a contributors' agreement.

Contributed copy is subject to editing by our brand editors, who have the final say. Staff will ensure the author receives a copy for approval before publication.

Bio and Headshot:

If the author is new to Bobit, please include a headshot (dimensions at least 300x300 pixels and 72 dpi) and an author bio.

Art or Graphics:

You are not required to submit art with the story; however, if you have good photos, charts, or graphics that help tell a story, we will consider using them. Photos should be at least 1000 x 600 pixels (the larger, the better) and 72 dpi. All submitted images must be original or have permission for use provided to Bobit.

Attribution:

Please clearly state the sources of any outside facts in the article, either within the article or through a hyperlink in the text. Attribution should be the source.

Please use hyperlinks to link to outside URLs; do not put the full web address in the article.

Style and Formatting: We use the Associated Press style and will apply our internal Bobit style rules and procedures.

Please include the author's name at the top of the piece, below the headline, and a 2-3 sentence author bio at the end that will run with the article.

Will the article appear in the print issue as well as online?

Bobit's print issues are generally reserved for staff-written pieces. We do not guarantee that any contributed pieces will appear in print, but you will be notified if one is selected for a future issue.

Social media:

Bobit routinely posts and links to its exclusive content on branded social media accounts, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and/or Pinterest. We reserve the right to post contributed content on all Bobit social media accounts and the social media accounts of our editors.

Tips:

  • Expertise. Don't tackle a topic you aren't a subject-matter expert on. Articles should have a thought-leadership perspective.
  • Use your voice. Try to write conversationally. While the content should be educational, it shouldn't read like a whitepaper.
  • Keep it educational. Content that is a thinly veiled sales pitch for a product or service will not be accepted.
  • You are not required to be a professional writer. The editorial staff can work with anyone who wants to contribute their expertise.
  • We leave the reporting to our staff editors. Q&A's, interviews, and pieces that "quote" interviewed sources are generally not accepted as contributed pieces.
