Government Fleet Announces New Awards Programs
Designed for public fleets, the three new awards will recognize fleet operations as well as individual fleet managers who have contributed significantly to the industry.

Government Fleet magazine is launching a series of new government fleet awards for 2014. Designed for public fleets, the three new awards will recognize fleet operations as well as individual fleet managers who have contributed significantly to the industry.
“These awards are unique to the industry, and we look forward to learning about the achievements of outstanding fleet organizations and individuals across the U.S. and in Canada,” GF Publisher Eric Bearly said.
The Leading Fleets award recognizes operations that are performing well in fleet innovation and leadership. There will be multiple winners in a variety of categories. Each year, Government Fleet magazine will name 50 Leading Fleets, with the top 20 being ranked. Additionally, there will be winners for No. 1 small fleet (499 or fewer assets), No. 1 mid-size fleet (500-999 assets), and No. 1 large fleet (1,000 or more assets).
The judges for this award will be John Hunt, CPFP, fleet manager, City of Portland, Ore.; Sam Lamerato, CPFP, fleet superintendent for the City of Troy, Mich.; and Dave Seavey, CAFM, director of fleet operations, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), and former fleet management division director for the City of Seattle.
Government Fleet’s Public Fleet Hall of Fame members are recognized industry leaders and pioneers who have contributed significantly to the public fleet management profession. Eligible nominees must have at least 20 years of fleet management experience within a public fleet agency. They do not have to be currently working in a public fleet operation to be nominated.
Sponsored by NJPA, the Public Fleet Hall of Fame will be established in 2014 with 10 founding Hall of Fame members selected by the industry through online voting. In 2015, eight veterans will be inducted, followed by six in 2016, four in 2017, and three in 2018. Thereafter, three honorees will be inducted in the Fleet Hall of Fame annually. The inductee with the highest number of votes annually will receive the Legendary Lifetime Achievement Award, also sponsored by NJPA.
The recipients of these new awards, as well as the Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year award, will be announced at the industry’s annual event, produced by Government Fleet magazine, the Government Fleet Expo & Conference (GFX). The 2014 GFX will take place in San Diego June 2-4, 2014.
