GREENSBURG, PA - Westmoreland County, Penn., commissioners on September 23 adopted a revision to the County's fleet policy that places restrictions on how nearly 30 take-home vehicles can be used, according to the Tribune-Review.

Last year, an audit of the 125-vehicle fleet found the county had inadequate oversight over how and when employees used government vehicles.

The new policy, in the works since 2008, will restrict take-home vehicles to law-enforcement personnel or workers with 24-hour, on-call duty. These employees will be permitted to use the cars only for county business and minor personal errands, and drivers cannot carry private passengers. All cars not used by law-enforcement personnel will be marked with a County insignia.

Department heads will be required to track which employees are assigned cars. Drivers will have to keep and submit detailed travel logs, according to the Tribune-Review.
