ELGIN, IL – Elgin Sweeper, a manufacturer of street sweepers, has introduced a version of the Pelican three-wheel broom sweeper that may be powered by either compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) — also known as propane.
In addition to being Elgin Sweeper’s flagship product, the Pelican has been America’s most popular urban street sweeper for generations. This three-wheel broom sweeper features outstanding maneuverability, visibility, a 10 ft. sweeping path, and the heavy duty No-Jam debris conveyor.
A clear, odorless, and non-corrosive gas, CNG has become an ideal energy source for the future. Vehicles powered by CNG, LNG, and LPG are used in a wide variety of commercial applications, including light-duty trucks and sedans, medium-duty trucks, and heavy-duty vehicles like sweepers, refuse haulers, and transit buses.
Due to deterioration in air quality, many cities in North America have embraced the use of alternative fuels in their municipal fleets and are showing increased interest in green transportation technology.
The alternative-fuel, single-engine Pelican is powered by the ultra-low emissions Cummins B5.9-195G engine that is certified to U.S. EPA and CARB standards and Euro V and EEV.
With more than 90 years of experience, Elgin Sweeper offers municipalities, contractors, and industries the most sweeper options in the country, using the latest sweeping technologies, including alternative fuel, mechanical, pure vacuum, regenerative air, and waterless dust control. In addition to the alternative fuel-powered Pelican, Elgin Sweeper offers the Eagle four-wheel mechanical sweeper powered by CNG and LPG; the Broom Bear mechanical sweeper powered by CNG; and the Crosswind four-wheel regenerative air sweeper powered by CNG.

Bobit Business Media surveyed 190 fleet professionals and found that while most fleets are tracking costs, fragmented systems and data gaps are keeping true TCO visibility out of reach. With rising pressure to control spend in an increasingly volatile environment, the gap between what fleets think they know and what the data actually shows is wider than you might expect. See how your peers are managing costs today and where the industry still has room to improve.
