North Lakes Fire & Rescue in Maine has purchased two fire trucks for the price of less than one by procuring used vehicles. The department replaced two trucks for $100,000, according to The County. It had been saving for a fleet upgrade but had to spend the funding on maintenance of the current fleet.

One truck is a 2005 Pierce pumper with a 1,000-gallon tank and a 1,500 gpm pump, according to the department’s Facebook page. This replaces a 1983 Ford Pumper, The County reported.

The second comes from Texas and is a 1997 tanker with a 1,800-gallon tank and 500 gpm pump. This replaces a 1979 International tanker.

“Not brand new, but it will work great for us. We have been saving for these, by purchasing these good used trucks we’re able to upgrade our fleet and keep the costs down,” the department stated on Facebook.

North Lakes Fire & Rescue covers four unorganized territories in Aroostook County, Maine.
