Fleet FAQ? Public Fleet Tracking and Telematics

Q. We’re thinking about implementing a reward system for drivers with outstanding safety records. How should we go about doing that?

A. Rewards can come in many forms, including bonuses, gift cards, time off, or other perks. One way to reward and continually motivate drivers is to run contests using the data captured by your telematics/GPS system. Keep in mind, drivers are more likely to embrace a telematics system when you emphasize the positive benefits to them—especially safer driving behaviors.

Using telematics data is a rising trend in how employees would like to receive employer feedback. An Incentive Research Foundation (IRF) study found that respondents not only had unique requests about recognition, but also how the recognition takes place. How the reward was given was often equally as important as the reward itself, and, according to the IRF research, should be personalized and delivered in real time in order to be meaningful.
