Fleet FAQ? Public Fleet Tracking and Telematics

Q. I’m in the process of putting together a plan for implementing telematics in my city’s fleet. What safer driving benefits should I emphasize?

A. There are seven primary safer driving benefits you can emphasize in your argument for implementing telematics. They include: reducing speeding, reducing hard braking and acceleration, tracking seat belt compliance, reducing excess driving, streamlining maintenance processes, protecting drivers in emergency situations, and coaching drivers when risky behaviors are identified.

In addition to lowering the fleet’s risk profile, most of these behavioral and process improvements can also help save the fleet money, both by avoiding or lessening the severity of a crash and by improving overall operational efficiency, e.g., cutting fuel costs by controlling aggressive driving behaviors.
