The Tempe (Ariz.) Police Department has begun equipping some of its motorcycle officers with AR-15s. The agency first starting this practice six months ago, and told AZ Central that it is a necessary practice as today’s criminals can also be equipped with military-style weapons.

Eight duty motorcycles, more than half of the motor fleet, have been upfitted with upright mounts for semi-automatic rifles, reports the Phoenix New Times. So far, no motor officers have fired their AR-15.
