Honda has begun leasing its 2017 Clarity Electric in California and Oregon, Honda has announced.

Honda is offering the battery-electric vehicle for $269 per month for 36 moths with $1,730 due at signing. As part of the deal, lessees receive an allowance of 20,000 miles per year and around-the-clock roadside assistance. The terms reflect the federal tax credit of $7,500.

Additionally, residents of the two states can apply for a $2,500 state rebate once they become available.

The Clarity Electric is powered by a 161-horsepower (120-kilowatt) electric motor that makes 221 lb.-ft. of torque. A 25.5-kWh lithium ion battery pack can be fully charged in just over three hours at 240-volits (Level 2). With DC fast charging, the vehicle can achieve an 80% charge in 30 minutes.

The Environmental Protection Agency has rated the vehicle's range at 89 miles on a full charge.
