Pittsburgh Orders First EVs

The City of Pittsburgh, Pa., has ordered its first battery-electric vehicles as part of Mayor Bill Peduto’s initiative to achieve a fossil fuel-free fleet by 2030, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. The city purchased two Ford Focus Electric vehicles and two Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicles, and installed four electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in its motor pool lot. In addition, the city plans to add six or seven EVs by the end of the year.
Earlier this month, Mayor Peduto released an executive order calling for increased efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build a more sustainable city. In May, the city received state grant funding to purchase 10 EVs and five EV charging units.
