An internal audit of the City of Wilmington, N.C., take-home vehicle fleet commended the police department for the oversight and management of its take-home vehicle program. Nearly one third of the city’s 671 vehicles are take-home cars used by the police department, Star News Online reported.

Officers are eligible for a take-home vehicle after two years of service and can only drive out to a 15-mile radius from city limits.

The audit recommended the city implement a city-wide policy for take-home vehicles.
