The Odessa (Texas) Police Department has proposed allowing its officers to take home their patrol vehicles to increase police presence in the community, reports NewsWest9.
If approved, the plan would put the agency on par with the surrounding Midland Police Departmnet and Ector County Independent School District (ECISD). The agency expects increased maintenance costs from the move.
"We need more incentives for officers so this would definitely be a step in the right direction," said Cpl. Steve LeSueur, an agency spokesman.
