The New Castle, Pennsylvania, Police Department is running out of usable vehicles for its fleet. According to the New Castle News, five marked vehicles have been involved in accidents over the last few months.
The department now has just enough marked vehicles needed for patrols.
Three of the vehicles were hit by deer and are damaged, but can be repaired. However, there is a delay because repair shops are waiting for parts. Two other vehicles are totaled, with one of them only having been in service for three days before it was damaged.
The New Castle News reports the department will receive reimbursements from its insurance carrier to get two new vehicles. However, the department is struggling to find replacement vehicles amid the ongoing police vehicle shortage.
If more vehicles are taken out of service, the police chief said the department will need to use unmarked vehicles -- something he does not want to resort to.
