The Florida Association of Governmental Fleet Administrators (FLAGFA) scholarship program remains strong and continues to support the next generation of technicians. In November 2019, FLAGFA awarded a $5,000 scholarship to be split between three students at Orange Technical College in Orlando. Juan Burgos, Ryan Webb, and Brandon Christie were chosen by Rob Kelley (transportation program coordinator) and his staff at the school after submitting essays, showing a commitment to the program, and a commitment to learn their trade. This was the second FLAGFA sponsored scholarship at this school and another piece of FLAGFA’s ongoing support to grow the future technicians to support the industry.

One of these recipients, Ryan Webb, will complete Orange Tech’s Diesel Service Technology program later in 2020. To further support this program, Orange County Fleet Management recruited Ryan to complete his internship in their Heavy Equipment and Heavy Truck shop. He began working for Orange County in March 2020. If all goes well, they hope to be able to hire him as a full-time technician later in 2020 after he completes his time at Orange Technical College.

Lake Technical College has also recently award a $5,000 FLAGFA sponsored scholarship to Jan Centeno. He is currently employed at Prestige Ford in Mount Dora, Fla., and will graduate from Lake Technical College later in 2020.
