House Democrats revealed the Moving Forward Act, a $1.5 trillion infrastructure bill, this week, which includes $25 billion in funding for the modernization of the Postal Service.

Of that money, $6 billion is designated for the purchase of vehicles. The bill states the Postal Service must ensure at least 75% of the total number of vehicles purchased using these funds be electric or zero emission vehicles.

In addition, no less than 50% of the total number of new medium or heavy-duty vehicles purchased by the Postal Service during this period shall be electric or zero-emission vehicles between the period beginning on the date of enactment and ending on December 31, 2029. On January 1, 2040, the Postal Service may not purchase any new medium or heavy-duty vehicle that is not an electric or zero-emission vehicle.

Further details can be found on page 1692 of the bill, under Division I, SEC. 50001 and 50002.
