Finding qualified technicians can be a challenge for public sector fleet managers. A survey of Government Fleet readers and private-sector technicians uncovered several interesting findings, which were covered in a feature article of the June 2015 issue. The 2015 Government Fleet Expo and Conference (GFX) in Denver drew more than 700 attendees and 92 exhibitors on the show floor. More fleets reported an increase in their fleet sizes this year in comparison to 2013 survey results. Increases in servie areas or programs have resulted in larger fleets for some, while right-sizing and selling off underutilized vehicles have resulted in fleet reduction for others. Government Fleet Magazine took a tour of one of the fleet facilities at Riverside County, Calif. The county has a fleet of 4,200 units, which are serviced at its seven maintenance facilities. Municipal Maintenance Equipment, a California-based company, is a dealership selling equipment that includes Schwarze sweepers, Vac Con sewer and storm drain cleaners, Go4 parking enforcement vehicles, Schwarze road patchers, Tarco material handlers, and Spaulding paving equipment. Tray Hall, territory sales manager, gave Government Fleet a tour of one of the company's facilities in Placentia, Calif., and some of the vehicles in the shop.
In early May, Government Fleet staff headed out to six facilities in the Southern California area to promote the Government Fleet Expo & Conference (GFX) in San Diego and to show GFX attendees the workings of some local fleets. The City of Oceanside fleet employs 13 people who manage and maintain 484 units. Fleet Supervisor Jeff Hart gave GF staff a tour of the city's fleet facility.
