A pair of motorcycles has been added to the West Virginia UniversityPolice Department fleet to enhance campus safety.
The university includes 518 buildings on 15,880 acres.
Focusing on Safety Around the WVU Campus
More than half a dozen officers have either completed or are in the process of going through the certification process to operate the vehicles, according to a WVU press release.
“We’re always looking for ways to get our officers into the places where they need to be for the protection of the university community,” Chief Sherry St. Clair said. “This investment shows our commitment to ensuring the safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors to campus.”

Officers will use the motorcycles to quickly access a variety of areas, including the trails, public greenspaces, events with large crowds, such as Mountaineer game days where, according to the statement, they have already been put to use, and more.
“Our officers appreciate the convenience of the motorcycles which can go into places traditional vehicles cannot,” St. Clair said. “We prioritize community policing initiatives which allow our officers to meet people outside of traditional law enforcement settings and these motorcycles will help with that by making our officers more visible on campus, at events and around Morgantown.”
The West Virginia University Police Department has served the WVU campus community since 1961.
