West Virginia Sheriff's Office to Install Starlink in Vehicles

Each Monroe County deputy will receive a mini Starlink terminal mounted to their cruisers to ensure continuous connectivity to the county's 911 Center and other deputies, even in areas with limited or no radio or cellular service.

A Starlink mini terminal is shown with a night sky background showing the Starlink satellite.

Since Starlink is satellite-based, its installation only requires a clear view of the sky. The added connectivity will allow deputies the opportunity to stay in touch during pursuit operations in remote areas and operate it as a base station in the middle of a field.

According to a news release, the county commission unanimously approved the purchase of the terminals from its jail reimbursement fund received from a settlement.

The Starlink initiative is also expanded to include precincts without communication with the clerk's office on election day, as well as a terminal for voter registration.
