The Alexandria, Virginia, Sheriff's Office is trading in keys for its last Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, from the 2011 model year — the final year Ford produced the Crown Vic — replacing it with an all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E.

The vehicle will be used as a recruiting tool and for general outreach, Darryl Syler, CPFP, fleet services director for the city told Government Fleet.

Electrifying the Law Enforcement and Citywide Fleet

The sheriff's office has a Ford fleet, so the choice of the Mach-E for its first EV made sense.

Syler told GF that the sheriff's office was happy to take on its first electric vehicle (EV). The department intends to add more EVs as time goes on.

The city is working toward a 10-year plan to transition its fleet to EVs. The existing fleet has over 90 zero-emissions vehicles and hybrids.

The vehicle will be charged using a charger installed at the sheriff's office.
