ROCKLEDGE, FL - Vandals ransacked Brevard County Fire-Rescue's fleet maintenance site before stealing a department utility truck and allegedly setting it ablaze in a wooded area, reports Florida Today.

Officials believe that sometime overnight on Feb. 28, vandals broke into the facility and went through fire engines and other vehicles, pulling out equipment and other items. The vandals scattered equipment and tried to get some four wheelers off trucks, officials said.

Brevard County Fire-Rescue crews were also called out about 7 a.m. to a wooded area, where, about a quarter-mile in, someone abandoned a burned fire-rescue utility truck. These types of vehicles are typically used to take supplies to firefighters.

The truck had just been serviced and was ready for pickup, officials said. The interior was completely gutted by fire.

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is investigating the break-in. The State Fire Marshal was called out to the scene of the truck fire and will determine whether the subsequent blaze was deliberately set, according to Florida Today.
