VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA,CANADA – Vancouver has added nine new vehicles to its fleet as part of an 18-vehicle, $12-million purchase that represents the first new additions to Vancouver’s fire fleet in 11 years, according to www.canada.com.
Capt. Rob Jones-Cook expects the new Spartan trucks to last 10 years. They will keep a couple of the older trucks on reserve as backup.
Some of the new vehicles have state-of-the-art foam spray, thereby using 10 percent of the water traditional fire trucks use. The trucks were manufactured in Nebraska, then driven to Abbotsford, where Profire Emergency Equipment added some finishing touches.
