Utah County Auctions Off Old Government Cars

PROVO, UT – On Sept. 16, the Utah County Public Works Department auctioned off 35 old county cars. The surplus vehicles auction allowed the public to bid on vehicles that were no longer used by Utah County employees.

PROVO, UT – On Sept. 16, the Utah County Public Works Department auctioned off 35 old county cars. The surplus vehicles auction allowed the public to bid on vehicles that were no longer used by Utah County employees. Most of the vehicles were from sheriff offices.

“The county has excellent maintenance for them,” said Donald Nay, an associate public works director for the Utah County Public Works Department. “If any of them have problems, there will be a note posted on the window.”

Paul Holly, motor pool division manager for the department, said the county brings these vehicles in for maintenance every three months, and vehicles from the sheriff’s department are checked every two months.

“We try to do preventative maintenance; try to do it before [the vehicles] have big problems,” Holly said.

All bidders were required to register and pay a $100 deposit before the auction.
