Dallas County, Texas, Commissioners recently approved the purchase of three new Tesla Model 3s for law enforcement use, according to NBC DFW.
A briefing given to the commissioners reveals the electric vehicles (EVs) will be used as part of the Automotive Service Center's (ASC) reserve units for law enforcement pilot testing. Law enforcement departments within the county will pilot test the vehicles for their daily work use, including maintaining public order and managing public safety. The vehicles will also be used as reserved units for law enforcement officers who have their issued vehicle in for repair or scheduled maintenance.
The briefing said that as a result of the ongoing semiconductor microchip and supply chain issues, the length of time to determine whether vehicles meet the replacement criteria guidelines for the ASC could potentially result in ordering banks from the manufacturers to be closed.The recommendation is to purchase the three Tesla Model 3s and have them placed as part of the ASC reserve unit.
The three new cars are expected to cost $190,320, or $63,440 each.
