South Florida Cities Deal with High Gas Prices by Using Less Fuel
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — To save money on gas, some South Florida cities are simply using less, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel newspaper.
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — To save money on gas, some South Florida cities are simply using less, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel newspaper. In Tamarac, workers are encouraged to shut off their engines rather than needlessly letting them idle, said Public Works Director Jack Strain. Dania Beach workers are urged to roll down windows while driving to save gas. Plantation has been cutting gas consumption for the past year by squeezing crew workers into fewer trucks when traveling to a job site, said Frank DeCelles, Plantation's public works director. When a job site shuts down for the night, the crew leaves the truck and equipment at the site instead of driving back to the Public Works Department. That saves a trip the next morning, he said. For financially strapped Fort Lauderdale, fewer employees means vehicles are driven less and money is saved on gas, said Steven Chapman, assistant finance director.
