COLUMBIA, SC – The state of South Carolina will review a report that says South Carolina could save $52 million by changing the way it buys and manages its fleet of cars, according to WIS TV. Before taking any action, the State Budget and Control Board agreed to study the report's recommendation. Mercury Associates says the state would benefit from buying new cars, selling little-used ones and reducing reimbursements to well-traveled state workers to encourage the use of state-owned vehicles. At the request of the Legislature, the report was prepared for the budget board. There were 52 recommendations, including centralizing much of the state's vehicle operations and closing separate maintenance shops operated by the different state agencies.
