Sheriff Installs Heat Alarms After K-9 Death
The engine of a Hinds County (Miss.) Sheriff's vehicle shut down while the deputy was on his lunch break. The K-9 inside suffered a heat stroke.
The Hinds County (Miss.) Sheriff’s Office is installing heat sensor alarms in its deputy cars after a K-9 died of a heat stoke while left in a vehicle. Fox 8 Live reports that an officer left his vehicle running with K-9 Officer Dex inside the vehicle during his lunch break. Sometime during the hourlong break, the engine shut down and the K-9 suffered a heat stroke.
The vehicle, a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe, has been pulled from the fleet and sent to the dealer for repairs. To prevent this from happening again, the Sheriff’s Office will install “Hot Car” alarms in it K-9 vehicles, designed to emit an audible sound and automatically lower the windows if the interior of the vehicle becomes too hot.
