San Jose State University Purchases Electric Motorcycles for Police Fleet
San Jose State University in San Jose, Calif., has purchased two new electric motorcycles from a company called Zero Motorcycles for its fleet of police patrol vehicles.

San Jose State University in San Jose, Calif., has purchased two new electric motorcycles, from a company called Zero Motorcycles, for its fleet of police patrol vehicles.
“We purchased these motorcycles for our patrol division because we believe the company and product blends well the university’s strategic vision and it’s a great way to support the local economy,” said UPD Captain Alan Cavallo.
According to the University, UPD said the motorcycles allow officers to access areas on campus that are too large for patrol cars to reach. The bikes are based on the 2012-MY Zero DS model. The DS has an approximate range of 112 miles on a single charge and allows officers to use them for a full, 12-hour shift. The motorcycles are upfitted with police lights and sirens, saddlebags for gear, and emergency medical equipment.
