San Diego County's fleet unit will be moving to a new $22-million service garage to make way for a new crime lab at its existing location, its fleet manager told Government Fleet.

The new facility should be operational by early summer of 2016, said Sharyl Blackington, the county's fleet manager.

The newly constructed fleet facility will contain 32 vehicle service bays, administrative offices with restrooms and locker rooms, vehicle parts storage, and other storage areas within a 46,000-square-foot area. The facility will be underneath four levels of newly constructed county parking with 830 stalls.

Expanded electric-vehicle charging infrastructure will include up to 50 EV charging stations in the parking structure. The facility's ceiling is a "high bay" with at least 18-feet, 6-inches clear from the working floor surface to the bottom of the concrete ceiling beams.

The project's cost is divided between an $18-million outlay for the parking structure and shell of the fleet facility and $4 million for tenant improvements to convert it for fleet's needs, including an allowance to relocate existing equipment.
