DIAMOND BAR, CA — City officials and fleet managers in Southern California had the opportunity to learn about environmentally friendly vehicle technology during the California Fuel Cell Partnership’s (CaFCP) annual road rally on Sept.17. The agency, which is an industry-government collaboration, began its caravan of cars at the state’s newest hydrogen station in Diamond Bar and continued south to San Diego. “We conduct workshops to introduce city officials to fuel cell technology and teach them about the benefits,” said Bob Hayden, CaFCP communications manager. DaimlerChrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, and Volkswagon provided vehicles powered by fuel cells for the road rally. CaFCP frequently conducts demonstration programs for city and municipal fleets. “We identify potential fleets that could benefit from this technology and give them a chance to ride in and drive these vehicles,” said Hayden. There are currently five hydrogen stations in Southern California and 12 planned for the next few years, according to Hayden.
