General Motors will begin producing a four-wheel-drive pursuit-rated Chevrolet Tahoe PPV for the 2015 model year for law enforcement agencies, the automaker announced Tuesday from the SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
The 2015 Tahoe PPV is getting a full redesign that includes the addition of GM's EcoTec3 powertrain developed for the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. GM will continue to offer existing versions—the four-wheel-drive special service and pursuit-rated, rear-wheel drive vehicles.
GM will add its 5.3-liter, V-8 EcoTec3 engine to its 2015 Tahoe PPV that offers 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. The EcoTec3 uses direct injection, cylinder deactivation and variable valve timing to manage torque and efficiency, according to GM. The engine will be mated to a Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed transmission calibrated for police operations.
The 2015 Tahoe PPV also gets electric power steering, increased payload for police gear, and body-on-frame construction. A standard 730-CAA auxiliary battery powers police radios, video cameras and laptops to avoid drain on the primary battery. A 110-volt power outlet and USB input are also offered.

The redesigned interior integrates safety features such as rear-park assist, a backup camera, and optional adjustable pedals to accommodate various drivers. GM's OnStar telematics service is now standard.
The large SUV will be built at GM's Arlington, Texas, plant. The 2WD and 4WD special service versions will be available by April 1, while the 4WD pursuit vehicle will be available by July 1, according to the automaker.
