Ore. City Deploys Fleet for Leaf Cleanup
The City of Hillsboro, Ore., is preparing for the seasonal weather ahead with its leaf pickup program for the fall and winter. Through the program, the city picks up about 4,500 to 4,700 cubic yards of leaf mulch every year, weighing more than 1.8 million pounds.

The City of Hillsboro, Ore., is preparing for the seasonal weather ahead with its leaf pickup program for the fall and winter. Through the program, the city picks up about 4,500 to 4,700 cubic yards of leaf mulch every year, weighing more than 1.8 million pounds, reports the Hillsboro Tribune.
Hillsboro uses a Trackless leaf loader utility vehicle to pick up leaves and debris that pile up along curbs. The resulting mulch from the leaf loaders is transferred to a dump truck, and is turned into fertilizer.
The city sends it leaf pickup teams out starting in November. Between then and January 19, each neighborhood is swept through twice. It also offers leaf drop-off services three times in November and December.
