The 2019 Ford Police Responder Hybrid is the first pursuit-rated hybrid vehicle, projected to achieve 38 mph city/highway combined. It is based on the Ford Fusion sedan platform, and calibrated for police use.
Other agencies that have placed larger orders include the Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), Columbus (Ohio) Police Department, Salt Lake City Police Department, South Miami Police Department, and Fairfax County, Va., according to Ford.
After announcing the Police Responder Hybrid Sedan in 2017, Ford has promoted the vehicle through appearances at the New York Auto Show and a Police Responder ride-and-drive tour, which also featured the F-150 Responder.
The Police Responder Hybrid also made an appearance at this year’s police vehicle testing events hosted by Michigan State Police and the LASD. At LASD’s event, the Police Responder Hybrid Sedan achieved 0-60 mph in 8.92 seconds, showing better performance than the V-8 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor the last time it was tested by LASD in 2011.
