One of the candidates running to become the mayor of Lincoln, Neb., is putting fleet sustainability front and center. If city council member Gaylor Baird is elected mayor this May, she plans on converting the city’s police fleet to the new hybrid Ford Police Interceptor Utility, reported the Lincoln Journal Star.

Police cruisers make up about half of the city fleet, and Baird proposed replacing them with hybrids as they reach the end of their five-year lifecycle.

Baird also plans to increase the number of pool vehicles, invest in vehicles that run on alternative and renewable fuels, and create additional electric-charging stations available to city staff and the general public.
