Nashville Mayor Megan Barry has filed a resolution with Metro City Council to reserve $4 million to upgrade in-vehicle laptops, printers, and other equipment for its police fleet.

In-vehicle technology upgrades are necessary to support the body-worn cameras previously approved in Mayor Barry’s FY-2018 Capital Spending plan, according to a press release. Additional funds are set aside to upgrade radio and server equipment as well as replacement vehicles for the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD).

News Channel 5 reports that MNPD’s current computers are about seven years old and due for replacement. The new computers would be able to support a 4G connection, WiFi, and any software necessary for the body cameras.
