The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in New York has unveiled a new graphics package for its patrol cars. The agency decided to change its vehicles’ look to adopt more reflective graphics, which boost vehicle visibility.

“Statistically, across the nation, more officers are hurt or killed around a patrol car than anywhere else they encounter,” said Sgt. Matthew Mackenzie at a press briefing. With reflective graphics, he noted, officers could be safer. “We looked at this opportunity — changing the design — to do just that.”

The new vehicles feature reflective gray lettering, the sheriff logo, and bright chevron stripes on the rear of the vehicle. A thin blue line runs along the sides of the vehicle, along with the team logo, American flag, and the phrase “Dial 911”

The new design will appear on new vehicles that are purchased according to the existing replacement schedule. The department rolls out about 30 cars annually, noted Mackenzie.

The selection process was thorough, and the agency collected input from management, deputies, and citizens before making the final decision.
