SEARCHMINEOLA, NY - One-hundred and twenty of the 192 Nassau County vehicles reported missing last month have been "located", but the rest are still unaccounted for.
MINEOLA, NY - George Maragos, the newly elected county comptroller for Nassau County, plans to get police involved unless all the county vehicles discovered missing last month are returned within 30 days, according to the New York Post.
Maragos sent a letter to Nassau fleet manager John Kelly Jan. 20, laying out his threat to get police involved in finding the 192 taxpayer-funded vehicles. Maragos asked for a full accounting of all vehicles, reported the Post.
The next day, Kelly reported he had "located" 120 of the vehicles, but 72 others -- mostly pickup trucks and other motorized equipment -- were still missing as of Jan. 22, according to the Post.
Maragos was quoted by the Post as saying "a lot of these vehicles are going to show up."
Michael Martino, spokesman for Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, attributed the missing vehicles to "poor record-keeping on the part of the previous administration," reported the Post.
