Anne Arundel County, Maryland, rolled out its first electric vehicles (EVs) for its fleet on June 30. The county purchased several Nissan Leaf EVs, according to a video on the county's social media pages. In 2020, County Executive Steuart Pittman announced an effort to convert the county's fleet of over 1,600 conventional vehicles to EVs.
Pittman sent a memo to the county's director of central services two years ago, calling for the immediate replacement of conventional vehicles to "more efficient models" where possible. The memo also directed the office to begin a long-range planning effort to identify the infrastructure, maintenance, and personnel needed to convert the fleet to all-electric vehicles within the next 15 years.
