BLOOMINGTON, IND. - City and county officials are urging Indiana University (IU) trustees to block the possible outsourcing of some school operations, according to The Herald Times.

University administrators were expected make a recommendation Dec. 20 to IU President Adam Herbert on whether to hire a private company to take care of about 600 school vehicles used on the Bloomington campus.

Privatizing the IU motor pool, with 13 full-time employees and a budget of about $3 million, is only the first step. Bidders have until Jan. 12 to submit proposals to operate the university bookstores.

Democratic leaders in Bloomington and Monroe County last week sent a letter to IU trustees and other officials, including Herbert, asking them to reconsider outsourcing and its impact on the community.
