Honolulu City Worker Charged With Taking Bribes for Vehicle Registrations
HONOLULU – An indictment has been returned against a Honolulu city worker accused of taking bribes to illegally update motor vehicle registrations.
HONOLULU – An indictment has been returned against a Honolulu city worker accused of taking bribes to illegally update motor vehicle registrations, according to the Web site www.kpua.net. Prosecutors says 50-year-old Brian Hamasaki would charge businesses and other vehicle owners about half the cost of legitimately updating registrations.
Deputy Prosecutor Christopher Van Marter said Hamasaki would keep the cash instead of giving it to the city. Van Marter said Hamasaki has been illegally updating vehicle registrations for more than 15 years.
Hamasaki was arrested after an informant and an undercover police officer gave him $1,000 in exchange for fraudulent paperwork for three vehicles.
Hamasaki was a customer service representative with the Satellite City Hall Division of the Customer Services Department. Prosecutors wouldn’t say how much money he allegedly stole over the years, according to www.kpua.net.
