HAMILTON, OH - City of Hamilton executives are no longer allowed to take city vehicles home, according to the Hamilton Journal-News. The new policy took effect April 2.
Interim City Manager Mark Brandenburger said 25 of the city's 47 take-home cars were eliminated, reported the Journal-News. Those who lost their city cars include the fire chief, deputy fire chief, police chief, police captains, and other administrators - including Brandenburger.
Some of the cars will be kept for a pool that workers may check out for city business during the day. Others will be sold.
"We're going to need some of them, but my guess is we're not going to need all of them," Brandenburger said.
It's too early to tell how much the city will save from the change, or how much they'll make from the sale, Brandenburg said.
"We're getting rid of the stuff at the bottom," selling the oldest cars first, he said.
The City Council will assess the change in six months and explore further cuts, reported the Journal-News.
