TUCSON, AZ — Most of Tucson's commercial garbage collection trucks will be out of service indefinitely for repairs, forcing a minor change in collection times for the city's 3,700 commercial customers, according to the Associated Press. City officials said cracks were found in the rear suspensions of 16 trucks and failure of the part could cause significant damage or complete failure of the rear axle. The problem was discovered during the inspection of a truck that had been involved in a minor accident. That prompted an inspection of all of the same model trucks the city owns. Thirteen of the defective trucks were equipped to collect the large garbage bins used by businesses. That's more than half the city's commercial fleet of 24 garbage trucks. Environmental Services Director Eliseo Garza Jr. said the discovery will force a minor change in collection times for the city's 3,700 commercial customers, but will have no effect on residential collections. To make up for the ones that are sidelined, Garza said the remaining commercial trucks will have to do double duty.
