GSA Begins Short-Term Vehicle Lease Program
ORLANDO, FL – The General Services Administration (GSA) is offering short-term car rentals.
ORLANDO, FL – The General Services Administration (GSA) is offering short-term car rentals — up to two months — to its fleet customers under a new program announced July 25, according to Federal Times. It hopes to begin offering hourly rentals in October.
GSA started working on a short-term rental program after Hurricane Katrina to meet the emergency needs of agencies in the Gulf Coast area.
Lander Allin, remarketing director for GSA Fleet, said some agencies can save money by using short-term leases instead of renting vehicles under GSA Fleet’s regular long-term program. GSA vehicles also will be cheaper than commercial rentals, he said, because GSA will not charge taxes and other fees. Agencies can rent sedans, pickup trucks, minivans, passenger vans, cargo vans, SUVS, and box trucks between 12 feet and 26 feet.
The rental program is meant to help employees do their regular jobs and is not meant to be used on temporary-duty trips.
GSA also will offer fleet managers reports on their agencies’ rental habits to track spending, according to Federal Times.
