The City of Rockford, Ill., is adding more dash cameras to its police fleet after city council approved using a $250,000 state grant to purchase them. Rockford Police say that by the end of the year, its entire frontline fleet of 124 squad cars will have dash cams, WREX reported.

The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Camera Grant reimburses the agency for the purchase of in-car cameras or officer-worn body cameras as well as training on how to use these cameras, according to city council documents. The city is purchasing the cameras through a joint purchasing contract, a solicitation completed by another jurisdiction.

Rockford has been hoping to add dash cams to all its vehicles for years, holding a fundraiser in 2017 to raise money for them.
