DENVER, CO – At GFX 2012, the Government Fleet Management Alliance (GFMA) presented the Cities of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Reno, Nev., with the crystal award for their recent completion of the Certified Fleet Management Operation (CFMO) program.

The CFMO certification, managed by the GFMA, benchmarks fleet practices against private-sector companies with which the public-sector group competes most directly. The certification testing process addresses 20 categories and eight foundation categories to ensure fleet management success and aims to make a fleet operation cost-effective, efficient, competitive, and well-managed.

The certification process allows fleet managers and staff to measure, and work to improve, the operation using a detailed certification self-audit based on industry best practices. Other CFMO-certified fleets are: City of Austin (Texas) Fleet Services, City of Fort Collins, Colo., City of Fresno, Calif., Lee County, City of Mesa, Ariz., City of Rochester, N.Y., Denver (Colo.) Water Board Fleet Administration; Las Vegas Valley Water District; Salt River Project (SRP) in Arizona; and Tucson (Ariz.) Electric Power Company.

More information about the CFMO certification can be found on the GFMA site.
