FORT WAYNE, IN - The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department is considering consolidating its fleet maintenance department with the rest of the city government, Director Dianne Hoover told city board members, reported the Ft. Wayne News-Sentinel. Currently, the city contracts out the work to First Vehicle Services, which provides maintenance and repairs for the fleet. The merger would make the parks department´s four fleet employees work for First Vehicle instead of the city, and could ultimately mean the loss of their jobs, the paper reported. Kelly Reagan of First Vehicle Services said the four employees would receive equal or greater wages than what the city provides and that their vacation entitlements would be honored. The four employees also said two other positions would be completely eliminated under the move: a welder and a supervisor. The board´s president said the members would hear all sides of the discussion before making a decision.
