Fort Collins, Colo., Orders 27 Ford Police Interceptor Utility Patrol Vehicles
The City of Fort Collins, Colo., has ordered 27 new Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles, with two planned to go into service in April and the rest scheduled for delivery in July.

The City of Fort Collins, Colo., has ordered 27 new Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles, with two planned to go into service in April and the rest scheduled for delivery in July. The City said it’s replacing nearly 20% of its patrol fleet in 2013. In addition, the City has updated the vehicles’ look and used a white 3M vinyl wrap instead of paint.
Part of the reason the City’s police department decided to go with a black-and-white color scheme is due to research conducted in Sunnyvale, Calif., that concluded that black and white police vehicles are more recognizable by the public. In addition, by ordering black vehicles and adding a white vinyl wrap, this saves money as the black color choice doesn’t cost anything extra.
The police department’s Officer Mike Crosland spearheaded the design and worked with other officers, and a local company called Action Signs in Fort Collins, to develop the vehicles’ new look.
