Ford's Special Service Police Interceptor sedan is now the most fuel-efficient police car sold in the United States, following official ratings from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The non-pursuit-rated sedan has been rated to achieve 24 mpg combined, including 30 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg in the city. The most fuel-efficient police vehicles from Dodge and Chevrolet achieve an EPA-estimated rating of 21 mpg combined.
The special service sedan, introduced in September, arrives with a 2.0L four-cylinder EcoBoost engine. Ford is pitching to vehicle to agencies looking to reduce their fuel costs, especially for non-pursuit vehicles in small rural agencies, universities and for detective work, according to the automaker.
The vehicles uses Ford's "active grille shutters" to manage airflow and optimize the balance between engine cooling and aerodynamics.
